Introduction The United States is a land of enormous bounty, freedom, and opportunity. It is the worlds richest and most powerful nation. It is also an unusually altruistic nation, founded on the ideas of the Enlightenment: equality, opportunity, and universal-brotherhood. The U.S. is currently the worlds leader in foreign aid to developing countries. It gives foreign aid to such countries in order to promote political stability and economic prosperity, a natural interest for any global hegemon. This aid comes in the form of money, food, humanitarian work, and military assistance. The countries who receive the foreign aid certainly need assistance, but do not always use the aid wisely. Now that our country is undergoing serious fiscal deficits, the nations costly foreign aid commitments must be reexamined. Thesis: The U.S. should stop giving foreign aid because the original purpose of foreign aid, to stop the threat of Communism, has expired. There is no doubt that these socio-economic changes have influenced the society both positively and negatively. The most two significant changes of all would be the Cultural Revolution which took place during 1960s and the economic transition to the market economy, which has been in effect since 1980s. In this research paper I will focus on the impacts of the ongoing socio-economic changes on what is called a â€Å"traditional† family in China. Nevertheless, there has always been a tendency for the divorce to increase in the whole nat ion. Throughout China, people hardly went to courts to have divorce before the communist revolution and most of the serious conflicts between couples were successfully settled by the community to which they belonged. In 1950, following the revolution by communists, the new marriage law was in effect, making divorce legal if marriages were â€Å"arranged† or â€Å"coerced† by parents or other members of the community. The goal of the law was primarily to give women more equality and freedom in affairs of marriage and the right to end unhappy marriages. The law was so successful that the evidence shows that in 1950, in a tiny isolated village, the Chuxiong Prefectural Court granted 510 divorces and within three years this number reached 6600 – a twelvefold rise. Moreover, in 1953, the overall number of divorces granted, throughout the country, was a record 1.17 million. The dramatic surge in the divorce, following the marriage law, clearly reflects how the traditional w ay of matching couples was ineffective. One reason why being a veterinarian is a great career for me is the payment. A veterinarian gets at least 80,000 dollars a year. If I become a veterinarian I could easily support myself and a couple of pets. Another reason why being veterinarian is the right job for me is it has always been my dream to be one. Working with scared animals is very risky and if that animal can hurt you it probably will.
